How to Get a Job
Using principles of Service Design
About
I started this project in the final quarter of my Senior year of college. The topic came about naturally as a way of preparing for the job market.
The idea was to use the project as an opportunity to research getting a job while simultaneously applying for jobs. The findings were to be recorded and turned into a guide for fellow designers entering the job market.
What follows is the combined results of three Service Designers, Alessio Rapaglia (myself), Andrea Torres, and Jonathan Potts, as we researched ‘how to get a job’. Along with illustrations from Natalie Stow, Industrial Designer.
This map suggests seven stages to succeeding into the workplace as a designer. These stages are based on the findings made when applying Service Design to the hiring process of entry-level design positions. (Pathway is not linear or guaranteed.)
How to use the map:
Download a full PDF version of the map with explanations and instructions. Print it out and use it to track your process and follow along while you build your portfolio and apply for jobs.
Alternatively, it can be viewed digitally and used in the same manner.
